Steps to Goal Setting Using My Free Goal Plan Worksheet

1. Download my Goal Planning Worksheet on the Free Downloads tab of my website and make a copy for each goal you have. I recommend you focus on one to three goals that you are committed to taking actions this week. Keep the goals you're not currently taking actions on in a safe place, and review them weekly when you’re updating the goals you’re actively taking actions toward.

2. Write down each Goal you’re focusing on for the week at the top of each page (Helpful hint, start with the word “to”), and add the date of when you would like to accomplish that goal. This date may be months or years out, but the actions you’re focused on taking will be within this week.

3. For each goal, list the Obstacles you will have to overcome to reach that goal (Helpful hint, what has prevented you from taking action in the past).

4. Under each obstacle, write out the specific Action Steps you are willing to take in the next week to overcome the obstacle (Helpful hint, if you know you aren’t willing to take the action, that it’s self is an obstacle).

5. Date each of the Action Steps the date of which you’re committed to complete each of them.

6. When you complete a task, fill in the completed date. If the task is repetitive within the same week, add a slash mark each time you complete the task.

7. Update goals weekly (Helpful hint, last weeks unfinished items may have another obstacle than the one you listed from last week).
